Three fraud suspects arrested

The fraud case was reported just one week ago.

Three suspects, aged 20, 25, and 32, were arrested on charges of fraud at approximately 2pm on Wednesday, 29 June by local police.

According to Westonaria Police spokesperson, Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu one of the suspects instructed the complainant to deposit an amount of money into a bank account to secure the purchase of a car that was advertised on a social media website.

The suspects allegedly posed as salesmen for a car dealership in Westonaria, and instructed the man to collect the car at the dealership two days later. When he arrived at the dealership to pay the balance owing on the car, he was told the dealer does not advertise on social media and did not know who the agent was.

“This is not the first report of this type of crime,” Ndlovu said. He went on to say, “Refrain from making deals via social media and depositing funds without proper investigation into the credibility of the seller.”
