Lack of government funds inspires CPF’s fundraisers

CPF utilises own members to raise funds for necessary equipment

Sector four CPF with the assistance of Randgate Spar held a fundraiser on Saturday, 25 June to aid the CPF in collecting funds for handheld patrol car radios.

This follows a lack of government funding and the need for the community to get involved in making their neighborhoods safe.

“We cannot rely on government to provide us with funds, we have to utilise it ourselves and the community,” Zaheer Gangat, Randfontein CPF Chairperson told other CPF members.

The fundraiser was a success, according to Rika Venter, member of sector 4 CPF, but she adds the forum has not nearly reached the amount they need to buy the radios.

The repeater and radios cost approximately R25 000. They currently have R9 000.

“The CPF thanks Randgate Spar for donating the rolls and boerewors to sell at this fundraiser and we applaud them for the effort they did to contribute to making the community a safer place,” Venter said.

As a result the CPF will host another fundraiser this coming Saturday, 2 July at Pick n Pay Helikon Park where they will be selling Boerewors rolls. Sales start from 8am and ends at 2pm.

“We cannot continue using our cell phones during patrols as texting while driving is severely dangerous and ineffective in emergency situations,” Venter said.

“The CPF hopes the community will support them once again this coming Saturday,” Venter said.
