Can you kick a habit for a week?

Sanca launches its Drug Awareness Week.

The South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca) is challenging members of the public to kick their habits for just one week.

Sanca started its Drug Awareness Week on 25 June. It will continue until 30 June. The awareness campaign comes with a challenge – kick your habit.

The Kick Your Habit challenge encourages people to give up just one habit for a five-day week. Sanca defines these habits as not only drug-related – it includes habits such as playing too many video games or eating too much junk food.

The aim of the challenge is to get people to give up a habit in order to be able to empathise with a drug user going through the process of recovery, and thus to be able to provide support to the drug user. The campaign has its own stickers, which are available at Sanca branches.

Sanca also encourages participants to post their experiences on social media. Sanca can be found on Facebook under Sanca National Directorate or @SANCANational.

Contact Sanca for more information on 086 147 2622 (toll free). The Sanca national offices operate from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm. The national office can be reached at 011 892 3829.
