Taxi driver assaulted, hijacked and left stranded

The victim's vehicle is still missing.

A 57-year-old taxi driver was recently assaulted, robbed and left stranded after a hijacking incident in the Randfontein Central Business District (CBD).

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the man was hijacked on 13 June at approximately 6pm in 6th Street.

“The complainant still had two passengers in his taxi when one allegedly pointed at him with a firearm,” Ernst said.

The suspects proceeded to pistol-whip the victim and forced him to the back of his own taxi where he was told to lie down.

“It is alleged that the suspects removed the vehicle’s tracker system and took the victim’s cellphones and money,”

The victim was later dropped off in the veld near the Cook 1 Mine in Randfontein. His vehicle, a white Quantum taxi with the registration number CD 80 GP is still missing.

The Randfontein Police are urging residents to come forward with any information that might lead to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
