Look out: Green man on a bicycle

Enzo is here to make Randfontein an oxygen-rich town.

Randfontein is about to become a bit greener, all thanks to a wandering green activist.

Enzo van Vuuren has cycled 6 000kms around the country in order to create awareness about the environment. He’s originally from Pretoria, and his passion for nature stems from spending his youth on his grandfathers’ farms.

The idea of taking to the streets on a bicycle was inspired by Knysna’s cycling Aids activist, André van Zijl. Enzo has no home, no job and no fixed income. He says everything he does is done through God’s favour.

He started a non-profit organisation called Heal the World 4 Us which has created a number of jobs.

He has come to Randfontein to promote planting more trees in order to create a more oxygen-rich town. He will be cycling through the streets of Randfontein to explain the importance of the environment as well as to sell plants that can purify the air.

Enzo is highly visible because of his green uniform, which includes a green hat and shoes that make him stand out from other cyclists. Around his neck is is a micro-incubator with a small piece of Spekboom in it.

The Spekboom produces a large amount of oxygen wherever it is planted and if enough of them are planted, the air will be as clean as though no cars or factories are around.

To make a donation to Enzo’s organisation, mail him at only5rand@gmail.com, or phone him on 071 303 4007.
