Elderly man missing for six months

Police are still looking for Sarel who has been missing for more than six months.

Police are asking the community to be on the lookout for an elderly man who has been missing for over six months.

Sarel Janse van Rensburg, 59, has still not been found after going missing on New Year’s Day.

In January his sister told the News that he had been visiting her since 3 December last year when he mysteriously disappeared on 1 January from the Jack Cotton Old Age Village in Krugersdorp West.

“He said goodbye, and I ask him if he was going to take a walk to which he agreed. That was the last I saw of him,” she said in January.

His sister, Emmie, was worried that his disappearance followed the one year anniversary of the passing of his wife.

Sarel slept at one of Emmie’s children’s homes at night and would usually spend the day with her.

He was wearing dark blue pants, a checked shirt and black shoes at the time of his disappearance, and could easily be identified by his grey hair and his glass eye on the right side of his face.

“I pray every morning and evening for his safe return. Not knowing where he is, is the worst feeling,” she said.

Should you know of his whereabouts or have more information, contact Colonel Van Staden on 011 951 1097 or 082 498 9484.
