Police arrest second suspect in West Rand murder case

Police: Both men are linked to the murders.

Police have confirmed a second suspect has been arrested in connection with the West Rand murders.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson the man, 36 years of age, along with the 29-year-old man arrested last week are both linked to the murders.

Both of them briefly appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate Court on Monday, 6 June. The case was postponed for a formal bail application to Tuesday, 14 June.

Major General Anna Mateisi, the West Rand Cluster Commander, expressed her appreciation towards the investigating team.

The team’s unrelenting investigation yielded positive results.

“The community can rest assured that the police will leave no stone unturned in these murder investigations,” said Major General Mateisi.

The bodies of Anthony Scholefield and Kevin McAlpine were found in the boots of their cars in Krugersdorp and most recently, Hanle Lategan was found dead in Elandsvlei, Randfontein. All of them had scheduled appointments with clients at 6pm.
