Woman’s vehicle stolen next to police station

Police: The woman left her vehicle secure in a parking area next to the police station.

The close presence of policemen and a police station did not deter a thief from stealing a vehicle belonging to a woman who was reporting another incident.

Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson, said the incident took place at about 8.45am on Friday, 27 May, right next to the Carletonville police station.

According to Ndlovu, it is alleged the complainant left her vehicle secure in a parking area next to the police station. She then entered the police station to report an accident. On leaving, she realised that her vehicle had been stolen.

She immediately reported the theft to the police, who started searching for the stolen vehicle, and put out a “Be on the lookout” call.

“This lookout eventually led to the recovery of the vehicle,” Ndlovu said.

Two constables spotted the vehicle travelling along the R500 between Glenharvie and Westonaria. They stopped it, and arrested a 30-year-old suspect.

He will be charged for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and will appear in court soon.
