Truck driver tells of hijack horror

The victims were eventually dropped off on Impala Road in Soweto, still tied up – Ndlovu.

Westonaria Police are still hunting for four suspects after they hijacked a delivery truck on the R28 earlier this week.

According to Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson, the truck was stationary at an intersection with its driver watching the traffic at about 6.50pm on Monday, when four unknown suspects – one armed with a handgun – opened the passenger door and jumped into the truck.

They then held the driver and crew at gunpoint and ordered them to continue driving.

“After driving about 1km, they instructed the driver to stop the truck. The suspects then tied up the driver and crew and blindfolded them. One suspect then took over driving the truck.

The victims were eventually dropped off along Impala Road in Soweto, still tied up.

“They managed to untie themselves with the help of a passing security guard, who called the police,” Ndlovu said.

Anyone with information that may help the police trace the suspects is urged to contact the Westonaria Police on 011 278 5300.
