Two critical as car crashes into tree

The passenger was found lying outside the vehicle.

Two people were critically injured when their vehicle crashed into a tree on the R501 about 12km out of Carletonville heading towards Westonaria on Thursday.

Chitra Bodasing, ER24 spokesperson said it is understood the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.

ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found the driver trapped in the vehicle. The passenger was found lying outside the vehicle. It is understood that a tree branch smashed through one of the vehicle’s windows injuring both the driver and the passenger.

The driver believed to be in his 20s was extricated and upon assessment it was found that he sustained multiple injuries.

“He was treated and transported to hospital by ER24 in an ambulance. The passenger, believed to be in his 30s, also sustained multiple injuries. He was treated and had to be airlifted to hospital by a private emergency service.”

The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
