Neighbours stop mugger in his tracks

Schwartz and his team thanks the Westonaria police for their quick response.

A resident of Westonaria and his neighbours took matters into their own hands by chasing a suspect who had mugged a woman and snatched her handbag.

It is alleged at about 10.30am on Thursday, the suspect grabbed the woman’s handbag and fled on foot.

A resident and his neighbours, who saw what was going on, wasted no time and chased the suspect. They managed to apprehend the suspect and recover the woman’s handbag. In order to ensure the suspect did not run away, one resident literally sat on the suspect and waited until members of the Westonaria Police arrived.

The public thanked the Westonaria Police for their quick response.

Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
