Community rescues street robbery victim

The suspect then pushed the victim to the ground – Ndlovu

Community members came to a woman’s rescue when she was attacked and robbed in Edward Street, Westonaria.

Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson said the incident took place at about 6.35pm last Friday.

It is alleged the complainant and her sister were walking home along Edward Street. The two suspects were walking in the opposite direction when one of them grabbed her and demanded her cellphone. The victim refused to hand it over.

When the suspect pushed the victim to the ground, her sister screamed for help. Community members came to their rescue and when the suspects tried to flee, the members managed to catch them.

Both suspects in their mid 20s were arrested for robbery and will appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
