Billing issues at the municipality?

Widowed pensioner tells of her struggle with municipal billing.

A Greenhills pensioner is at her wits end after billing woes at the Randfontein Local Municipality.

Ansie Scheepers, a widowed pensioner said she’s been paying the arrears on her account but it feels like she’s paying money into a never ending pit.

Scheepers explained that after her husband died in 2014 her municipal account fell arrears of which recently she had to pay an amount around nearly R8 000 which she said seems to have turned into much more than just that.

“The statement said I have to pay R7 923 but when I went in, they said I only needed to pay R5 746 because they owed money to my account. Later they said I had to pay R1 354 then R2 043. Finally I got a green letter that threatened my power would go off if I didn’t pay R3 859,” Scheepers explained.

Scheepers said she believes her payments aren’t reflecting on the municipal system while she pays without end.

“I also don’t get accounts regularly. I have to go in to get my accounts,” she said.

Scheepers said she told that some of the money she had to pay was to remove her late husband’s name from the account which has still not materialised.

I don’t understand these things well but even when you ask the municipality to explain it to you, they have an attitude,” she said.
