Man rescued from kidnappers, four arrested

Police: They threatened to kill him with a knife.

Westonaria Police came to the rescue of a man said to have been kidnapped during the weekend.

Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson, said the incident took place on Sunday.

Police told the Herald the complainant was allegedly at the Palm Tree Hotel in Westonaria when he was approached by four suspects.

The first suspect demanded money from the victim, alleging that he was owed the money for work he’d done on the victim’s car. An argument then ensued.

Ndlovu further said that one suspect took out a knife and held up the victim while two others searched him. The suspects took R2 150 out of the victim’s wallet, and then ordered him to get into their car, in which they drove to the bank.

At the bank, the suspects demanded the victim’s PIN number, but he gave them a fake number. They then drove the complainant into the bush, where they threatened to kill him with a knife.

“The victim then gave them the correct PIN number. The suspects went back to the ATM to withdraw more money, but the transaction failed. While they were on the way to another ATM, the suspects were stopped by officers from the Westonaria Police.

The victim then told the police what had happened. All four suspects were arrested and will appear in court soon,” said Captain Ndlovu.

The suspects, aged 18, 19, 24 and 31, will face charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.
