Major donations made to Trudy’s

Elderly receives two wheelchairs valued at over R5 000 and R1 000 worth of meat stamps.

Trudy’s Nest, the Toekomsrus haven for the elderly, has once again been given a hand by good Samaritans.

Trudy’s Nest was given two wheelchairs by the Palm Classic Golf Club – a golf club based in Toekomsrus.

Trudy Haywood, founder of Trudy’s Nest, said the chairs will be used for those of the elderly who experience difficulty getting to the club because of ailments affecting their ability to walk. Trudy said they have approximately 10 members with such issues coming to the club.

We don’t have a club car, so the club’s nurses who do home visits will use these wheelchairs to transport those who aren’t able to walk this far,” Trudy explained.

When asked how she managed to get the sponsorship, Trudy said, “I just took a chance and reached out to the club. I presented them with our certification as an NGO and the next thing I knew, we got the wheelchairs.”

The wheelchairs are valued at over R5 000, an amount Trudy’s Nest would never have dreamed of being able to collect in such a short period of time.

In addition to the wheelchairs, Dean’s Butchery (also based in Toekomsrus) has given Trudy’s Nest R1 000 worth of meat stamps.

Trudy would like to thank the Palm Classic Golf Club, and Dean’s Butchery, for their donations and said they will be used well this winter, to make the lives of their members more comfortable.
