EPR’s quick response leads to arrest of thieves

Security officer responds to panic signal, speaks to victim, gives chase and arrests two suspects.

The quick response of an EPR security officer led to the arrest of two suspected thieves in Randgate last week.

It is said the two suspects were found in possession of stolen property.

The Herald has been informed that at about 10.30am that day, the EPR control-room received a panic signal from a resident in Lazaar Avenue. Riaan Oberholzer, EPR reaction officer, was then dispatched to the scene. The complainant said he was robbed of his lawnmower by two suspects. He then gave a description of the suspects as well as indicating the direction they fled in.

One of the suspects was spotted walking with the stolen lawnmower. Oberholzer approached him, and a struggle ensued. At the same time, the other suspect approached Oberholzer, allegedly with the aim of attacking him.

Another EPR reaction officer, Christo Dekker, came to Oberholzer’s rescue and arrested the second suspect. Both suspects were eventually handed over to the Randfontein Police for further investigation.
