Security nails suspected burglar in foot chase

'You can't sleep if you don't catch at least one suspect.'

Mapogo Security as well as Village Square Mall’s security engaged in a high-speed foot chase after suspects and succeeded in Homelake on Thursday.

According to Darius Wilkins, reaction officer at Mapogo, he received an alarm from a house in Godfrey Street and went to investigate.

“A woman said there was a suspect in her yard and when I went to go check I saw that a suspect was in the property behind hers so I gave chase,” Wilkins explained.

He managed to apprehend the suspect and was later met by security guards from Village Square Mall who said they had been chasing this suspect along with another suspect from the mall.

Later Wilkins got a tip-off the other suspect was in Homestead Avenue on the property of a well-known businessman.

When I got to the property I found another security guard with a badly broken leg. I’m not sure what happened.

“I chased after the suspect but he jumped over the wall and disappeared into the bushes behind the property at Riebeeck Lake,” Wilkins explained.

Wilkins is chuffed by the arrest even though one suspect managed to escape.

“You can’t sleep if you don’t catch at least one suspect,” he said.
