As of today, all traffic law enforcement agencies in Gauteng will take part in a massive traffic clampdown the Herald‘s sister newspaper, Roodepoort Record reported.
They are set to deal with lawlessness in a bid to reduce crashes, injuries and deaths on Gauteng roads.
The clampdown, code named Operation Ke Molao (it’s the law) will target all hazardous routes and behaviour that result in preventable road accidents. Officers will be out in full force in all the metros and municipalities, and there will be zero tolerance.
Driving on yellow lanes, reckless and negligent driving and vehicle unroadworthiness will be punished severely as authorities seek to make Gauteng roads safe for all road users. Offending drivers will be arrested on the spot and charged. Vehicles that are not fit to be on the road will be impounded.
Road users are urged to be patient during this period as the clampdown might cause traffic delays on some routes. After all, the main objective of the operation is to save lives.
