R’fontein moms treated to Jazz and more

Free blankets and entertainment are what Mother's Day was all about.

Randfontein’s mothers were treated to entertainment and gifts free of charge at Cottage Lodge in Greenhills on Sunday.

Rose Morero Bulane from the old Sophiatown Jazz scene along with her daughter Seipati Bulane Hope sang old classics to Randfontein’s mothers and their families. Rose comes from the same area and era as Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba.

Rose – who is in her old age – and her daughter Seipati brought back the same vibrance of Sophiatown in the 1940s to Randfontein.

The duo were not the only entertainment for Mother’s Day as Thabiso Masimini and Mmusi Morekuure wowed the audience with their deep voices. They sang Italian opera that mesmerised the audience and their voices were met with great applause. The two are part of a four-piece music ensemble and they will be performing at the lodge again on Saturday, 28 May.

In between the musical performances, comedian Mr T made joke after joke but also handed out blanket throws donated by Aranda to elderly mothers in the audience.

Jill de Reuck, an elderly mother in a wheelchair received a special shawl from Mr T worth a pretty penny free of charge just for being a mom and doing it so well over the years.
