Police reach out to liquor traders

Randfontein Police urge all liquor traders to attend next meeting as important information will be given about liquor trading.

The Randfontein Police reached out to liquor traders in Mohlakeng to address liquor relate crimes and how to avoid liquor license fraud.

The meeting was held in Mohlakeng’s Ramosa Hall on Wednesday, 20 April. A total of 66 liquor traders from the area attended the meeting.

The main reason for the meeting was to get liquor traders to assist the police in addressing liquor-related crimes as Brigadier Mashole Joseph Manamela, Randfontein Police Station Commander said contributing factors to Randfontein crime emanates from liquor premises.

Manamela also urged all liquor traders in the greater Randfontein area to control their patrons and prevent crime around their business areas.

Two members of the Gauteng Liquor Board also attended the meeting to address the norms and standards for occasional permits.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, fraudulent permits mainly occur when a permit holder passes away and the family continues to trade under the permit which is fraud.

The Gauteng Liquor Board also encouraged liquor traders who attended the event to become members of associations like the National Tourism Hospitality Association (NTHA) and the South African Liquor Traders Association (SALTA) who protect the rights of the liquor trader rights.

Randfontein’s Town Planning department attended the meeting as well and discussed the legislation regarding the consent letters applicable for businesses that operate within a 500 meter radius of schools and churches.

This is not the last liquor trader’s forum meeting as the Randfontein Police will be having another meeting will take place on Friday, 20 May at the Randfontein Police Crime Prevention Hall at 10am.
