Totalsports robbed of R300 000 by armed gunmen

Police: Seven armed men entered the store and held the staff members at gunpoint.

Police are hunting for a group of armed suspects who targeted the Totalsports in Village Square Mall and fled with thousands of rands in cash on Thursday.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed the armed robbery took place at around 10am.

According to Ernst, it is alleged that seven armed men entered the store and held the staff members at gunpoint. In the 15 minutes they were in the shop, the suspects took cellular telephones, clothes and shoes. After that, they left the store.

They allegedly fled the scene in a white Audi and a black Mercedes – both without number plates.

“The suspects were conversing in English. The value of the goods taken are estimated at R300 000. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported. Detectives on the scene are conducting intensive investigation,” Ernst said.

Comment is still awaited from Village Square Mall management on the matter.
