Man’s body found by passers-by

Passers-by discover dead man laying on his stomach.

The body of a man was found by pedestrians who had been walking home in Railway Street near the Randfontein railway station bridge, Randfontein Police said.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed the discovery was made on Sunday morning, 1 May.

The pedestrians, two women and a man, allegedly were walking home when they came across a dead man laying on his stomach. They called out to the man but he did not respond. The Randfontein Police were called to the scene as well as paramedics. The man was declared dead.

He has slight bruises on his head but no other visible injuries.

“The deceased was dressed in a white T-shirt, blue jeans and black boots. He had no identification on his person,” Ernst explained.

A post-mortem will be done on the body to determine the cause of death.

The Randfontein Detectives are currently investigating an inquest and are calling out to the community for assistance. The man is unknown to the police and any person who might be able to identify the deceased or has information as to what happened to the man is to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Pappas Mhlongo on 011 278 8100.
