Three arrested for petrol theft worth R3 000

Police: They were unable to give a reasonable account for their possession of the goods.

The alertness of the farming community in the Witfontein area resulted in three arrests and the recovery of 210 litres of stolen petrol.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said residents in the area noticed an unfamiliar activity during the early hours of the morning of Thursday, 28 April.

At daybreak they discovered two vehicles in the area with 210 litres petrol in their possession. The Randfontein Police were called and the three men were questioned.

“They were unable to give a reasonable account for their possession of the goods and they were arrested. The value of the recovered petrol is approximately R3 000.

The observant nature of the residents is commended since it is a clear indication they take responsibility in securing their area,” Ernst said.

“In reporting illegal activities, they also assist the police in the fight against crime,” said Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police Station Commander.
