Man robbed of firearm while at after-hours joint

Police warn not to take firearms to drinking establishments.

A man recently was robbed of his firearm while visiting a local tavern.

According to Sargent Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the incident took place on Saturday, 23 April.

Police say the 36-year-old victim was assisted by patrons from the tavern in identifying the suspect. The Bekkersdal Police were then called and a witness gave them information that revealed where the suspects live.

“The police and the victim proceeded there and the suspect was arrested while in possession of the firearm,” Lefakane explained.

The suspect appeared before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 April facing charges of robbery and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Lefakane warns firearm owners to refrain from taking their firearms to any drinking establishments to avoid these kinds of incidents.
