Bekkersdal Police have arrested eight suspects in connection with a gang-related murder in the area.
Sargent Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the murder occurred on Friday, 22 April. The suspects aged between 19 and 25 were arrested by the Default Intervention Unit four days later on Tuesday, 26 April.
“It is alleged on the day of the murder that two groups were fighting in an open veld in Simunye.
The body of a 25-year-old victim only was recovered on the Sunday.
“A case of murder was opened and further investigations revealed that the deceased was part of the fight on 22 April. The suspects were traced following an investigation and the weapons, including a firearm – used to commit the offence – were seized,” Lefakane said.
They are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrate Court during the course of this week.
