UPDATE: Sweet shop burglar to face two charges

Police: The sweets he stole from the sweet shop also were recovered.

Westonaria Police confirmed that a 29-year-old man was arrested by EPR Security after allegedly breaking into a sweet shop in the area recently.

According to Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson, the shop owner allegedly was called by EPR after they got an alarm notification from his shop in the early hours of Wednesday, 20 April.

The shop owner allegedly rushed to the scene where he found one of the ceiling boards in the business was open. He also heard footsteps coming from the roof. When he investigated, he saw an unknown man running on the roof towards a nearby shop before jumping down.

The EPR security officers on scene then chased the suspect and caught him in the street.

The suspect was searched and was found in possession of tools suspected to be used to breaking into houses and cars.

“The sweets he stole from the sweet shop also were recovered,” Ndlovu said.

The suspect was arrested and will soon appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court for business burglary and being in possession of housebreaking implements.
