Homeless man left with only a bible

Out-of-towner looking for work clothes to get back on his feet.

A self-proclaimed homeless man was left with just his bible after his suitcase was stolen from his sleeping spot.

Kevin Viljoen has been homeless for two weeks and is originally from Phalaborwa. He said he came to Randfontein to live with family but was suddenly thrown out of the house after a misunderstanding.

Kevin has a wife and daughter. His wife currently still lives with his Randfontein family while his daughter lives with her grandparents after being taken away from him when he went to rehab a while back.

He sleeps at the Greenhills Stadium where he also kept his clothing but one day when he came from watching cars at the Greenhills Circle, he found his bag was no longer there.

Kevin has been trying to get back on his feet in a town he doesn’t know. He said he has since been offered a job by a construction company in town.

I was given work and I’m expected to start soon but I don’t have anything. I don’t have overalls or safety boots, yet,” he said.

Kevin added he didn’t know where to go other than the local newspaper in a bid to get overall and safety boot donations. Because his suitcase with clothing recently was stolen, Kevin is also pleading to the community to donate any clothing they can to him.

For any donations to Kevin or for more information, residents can contact the Herald on 011 693 3671 or 073 596 0753.
