One airlifted, four others injured in car rollover

'Man sustained possible head and internal injuries.'

One person sustained critical injuries and four others minor injuries when their vehicle overturned on the R501 approximately 10km outside of Carletonville on Sunday over the weekend.

According to Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson, at around 8pm, paramedics from ER24 and local emergency services arrived on the scene where they found a vehicle lying on its roof in a ditch next to the road. Four people were standing next to the vehicle and another, believed to be 25 years old, was lying a few meters away.

“Upon assessment they [paramedics] found that the man lying next to the vehicle sustained possible head and internal injuries. An emergency medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift him to Milpark Hospital.

“The four other occupants of the car were assessed on the scene and treated for minor scrapes and bruises. They were later transported to the Fountains Hospital for further care.”

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene.
