Basic services taken to the people

Residents of Bekkersdal got a chance to do their year's basic services admin.

Residents from one of Bekkersdal’s informal settlements who had no access to basic services had the services taken to them.

The Tarlton Police, Bekkersdal Police, West Rand District Municipality as well as various other organisations were present at the event to assist residents with services such as certifications, grant applications and ID applications.

The Philani Development Centre also was present at the event to encourage residents to join them in furthering their education. Residents of the informal settlement lined up for metres and metres to get their social admin done for the year.

Some children at the event did applications to get their birth certificates for the first time and parents happily supplied all the information needed in order for their children to be accepted into a school.

Constable Lucky Matome from the Tarlton Police was spotted certifying documents for residents as well as Bekkersdal spokesperson, Sargent Linkie Lefakane.

The Department of Sports and Recreation also did their part in encouraging the youth of the informal settlement to join in on sports in the community and to keep out of trouble.

After the services drive, residents will now have access to grants, education and possibly job opportunities because they possess documentation. If it wasn’t for the event, residents who are rather remotely located just of the R559 would have to take public transport to stand in queues in town.
