House robberies on the increase, warns police

Intensify your security – police to community.

Westonaria Police are warning residents of an increase in house robberies.

Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson urges residents to be crime cautious and apply the following preventative measures:

Install the best internal security doors that you can afford and make provision for good outside lighting. Get a good watchdog, they are very good early warning systems.

Get to know your neighbour and inform them if you are going away. If a suspicious character gets noticed, immediately report it to the police.

As soon as your alarm goes off, you hear your dogs barking or a strange noise, switch on your outside lights. Be sure you know all the emergency numbers and keep serial numbers of appliances for identification purposes.

Do not buy stolen goods. If you do, more victims will suffer because you provide a market for these goods and an incentive for criminals to keep stealing them.

“As thieves go about stealing to meet the demand for stolen goods, they commit crimes along the way and even murder and assault a witness or helpless victim. The Westonaria Police is also concerned about theft of air conditioners from big business premises around the area. Business owners are asked to intensify their security.”
