‘Entering my own home near impossible’

Dam of water prevents woman from entering home.

A Toekomsrus resident is at her wits’ end with poor service delivery.

Raucilla Marsh contacted the Herald‘s regarding a non-functional drain outside her home that makes entering and exiting her property near impossible. In addition to the drain issue, the open stand next to Marsh’s home also has become an illegal dumping spot.

Marsh has been living in her home since 2013 and stated that the drain issue has been a problem even before she moved in.

“It was like that when we bought the house. The previous owners had the same problem with the municipality not fixing this drain and cleaning the open stand. People throw the carcasses of dogs and cats there,” she said.

Marsh explained that one of her neighbours who has passed away, used to hire municipal workers to clean the stand and paid them out of his own pocket.

I am sorry, I will not do the same because I pay rates and taxes,” said Marsh.

She contacted Jacques Julius, Randfontein DA MP, regarding the matter. He then reported it to the municipality, but to no avail.

“We are even scared to go home late at night because you don’t know who’s waiting for you when you park your car at night.”

This is not the first drain issue reported in Toekomsrus. The Herald visited a broken drain at the Visrivier and Peach Street intersection last month with DA councillor Donovan Cloete which has not been operational for the past eight years.
