Farm attack: Seven suspects on the run after armed robbery

Police: The suspects arrived at the farm pretending to be electricians.

Westonaria Police are hunting for seven suspects involved in an armed robbery on a farm in Leeudoorn earlier this week.

The incident took place at around 9.50am on Tuesday.

“It is alleged that seven unknown suspects travelling in a single cab van arrived at the farm pretending to be electricians. On arrival they asked the complainant to lead them to the house. After entering the kitchen, all seven suspects produced firearms, held up the employees at gunpoint and pushed them into the sitting room.

“The suspects tied up the victims’ hands and feet with cable ties and allegedly covered them with blankets.

The victims were ordered to lie down on the floor and not to move. The suspect then cut the safe open with a grinder.

“They then opened the safe, and fled the scene,”, said Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson.

The complainant and employees eventually managed to free themselves where they then informed the employer telephonically. When the employer arrived, he realised that his handgun, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen from the safe.

No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained. The seven suspects are still on the run.

Anyone with information that may assist the police to bring these suspects to book, must please contact officer Ali Motlhale on 082 319 9515.
