Suspected burglar arrested on business roof

Stolen items and tools he allegedly used to break-in also was found in his possession.

A suspected burglar was caught in the roof of a business in Briggs Street, Westonaria early on Wednesday.

According to EPR Security the incident took place at around 1.54am when they received a panic signal from the business premises.

On arrival, the two reaction officers, Johan Fouche and Nolan Gerber, heard a noise coming from inside the store.

The owner of the shop was notified to open the store so they could investigate. While waiting on the owner, the two reaction officers pretended to leave the premises and waited nearby.

While under the impression that EPR had left the vicinity, the suspect allegedly climbed back through the roof where the reaction officers arrested him. He was then handed over to the Westonaria Police for further investigation.

Stolen items and tools he allegedly used to break-in also was found in his possession.

“This once again shows that business owners especially need to take the time to open their premises for the reaction officers to ensure the whole property gets searched.

“It is not always possible for the reaction officers to confirm a break-in, especially if it took place through the roof or another area where they do not have access,” said Johan Kroch, General Manager of EPR.
