217 suspects bite the dust

Acting cluster commander: Keep up the good work.

The West Rand Police Cluster didn’t leave a moment to spare while arresting suspects at the beginning of the month.

The cluster was previously called the Krugersdorp Cluster but its name has since changed to the West Rand Cluster of which Randfontein is part of.

During the week of 4 to 10 April members all across the cluster arrested 217 suspects of which 99 happened in one weekend.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the arrests were made for serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, rape, armed robbery, car theft, theft, fraud, driving under the influence and contraventions of the firearm act.

One of the murder suspects was on the run since November 2013. Brigadier Sipho Ngubane, acting cluster commander, said,

This is a clear indication of the seriousness in which members conduct their duties.”

Less serious arrests included dealing in liquor, trespassing, intimidation and contempt of court.

Ngubane congratulated cluster members on the arrests and said, “Keep up the good work.”
