Pageantry is not just about beauty

Giving back to the community and being an ambassador for culture is also part of being a pageant queen.

Randfontein’s Beloved Sechele is once again a finalist in a prestigious pageant.

Beloved, 16, has been in the pageant industry for 12 years. This Hoërskool Riebeeckrand pupil made it through to the Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa final. The grand finale will be held on Thursday 2 July at the Atterbury Theatre.

Beloved already has five titles behind her name, including Miss Pre-teen Africa 2012 and Miss Pre-teen Universe 2012 and she is well on her way to winning another one.

The pageant was started three years ago with the aim to empower teenage girls and teach them to be the leaders of the future. It focuses on leadership skills, modelling, public speaking and more.

One of the requisites of the participants in the pageant is to make a difference in their communities while in the competition.

The pageant is also a platform for young women to become ambassadors for charity and culture in South Africa, as well as internationally. Title holders of the competition will subsequently be involved with charitable causes and uphold the goals of the Commonwealth.

The grand prize for the lucky winner is R15 000 among other prizes.
