A new start for Hospice on West Rand

A new Hospice is set to open in Krugersdorp for the West Rand community.

It’s a fresh start for hospice in Krugersdorp as the organisation is set to open its doors to the West Rand community once again.

A newly formed organisation, Old Oak Hospice, will be built from the ground and will serve Florida, Roodepoort, Krugersdorp and Carletonville.

“There will be no sign of the old hospice as everything – management, approach and service – will be brand new,” Ina Meiring, founder of Old Oak Hospice said.

After having beaten cancer twice, Ina decided to follow her heart and help others who are going though the same ordeal.

“I had my first encounter with hospice when I was diagnosed with cancer,” Ina explained to the Herald‘s sister newspaper, Krugersdorp News.

She was quite upset to learn that Hospice West Gauteng had closed their doors in February last year.

For the new hospice, Ina has an in-patient practice in mind where patients could fight the battle with the right equipment, treatment and support at their disposal.

Ina’s first order of business will be the taking over of the old hospice premises in Burger Street where she plans to create a space where patients and their family can come for coffee and receive emotional, spiritual and physical counselling.

Other service will include an in-patient unit, home-based care, daycare and support, bereavement counselling, a training centre, personal development and holistic treatments.

I invite the community, businesses and residents officially to roll up their sleeves and become involved in getting this organisation off the ground.

“I am also looking for members to sit on the board and help me to help the community.”

Ina invites the community to be part of this initiative. For more information on how to get involved, contact Ina on 078 969 7400 or email oldoakhospicewestrand@gmail.com.
