T20 match in honour of late club chairman

Randfontein Cricket Club holds two T20 matches in memory of late club chairman.

Randfontein Cricket Club’s last two T20 matches of the season were in memory of late Jan Cornelius, who was chairman of the club for more than 20 years.

Jan passed away in September 2014. Besides his dedicated chairman duties, Jan also was responsible for some of the infrastructure at the club seen even today.

The day’s theme was ‘legends of the past versus legends of the future’. The young players went up against the older players in a two relaxed matches full of misses, awkward runs and laying down on the field.

Cricket enthusiasts in Randfontein came in their numbers to watch the special match and set up their braais on the side of the field to watch good cricket with good friends.

The day started off with the over 35 Saturday 5 side against the Sunday 9 side, followed by the Legends side against the Premier side.

The Saturday 5 side was victorious by 18 runs, while the Premier side beat the Legends side by two wickets in a close encounter.

The Premier side ended third in the time cricket league. Three of their batsmen and two bowlers were ranked in the Gauteng Cricket Board top 20 provisional ranking.

Eduan van Heerden took the number-one ranking as a bowler and number 6 as a batsman.
