Another act of kindness by Mayor

Principal: This shows that government cares about the education of our children.

Mzi Khumalo, Randfontein Executive Mayor recently distributed school uniforms to 25 needy pupils at Setholela Primary in Brandvlei.

Khumalo identified these pupils earlier this year during his School Shoes programme in which he distributed more than 1 500 pairs of shoes in different schools around Randfontein.

I was touched to see such young children dressed in tattered clothes and worn out shoes while others were walking barefoot on a chilly morning.

“This prompted me to do something about it. I contacted a number of possible donors and by God’s grace Fleet Africa responded positively.”

Fleet Africa donated R10 000 worth of uniforms comprising of school skirts, trousers and shirts in line with the school’s colours.

Khumalo, accompanied by his office team, Justice Makunyula (manager in the speaker’s office) and team Fleet Africa led by Lungile Mkhwanazi (Human Resource Manager), received a very warm welcome on their arrival from Lasie Daniels (principal of Setholela Primary).

“I am speechless. I did not expect the Mayor to return to our school so soon. This shows that government cares about the education of our children,” an emotional Daniels said.

While Khumalo handed over the uniforms to the pupils, it was noticed that one of the pupils were wearing both left foot shoes.

According to Khumalo, “The Randfontein Local Municipality is committed to continuously improve the lives of the people it serves. We are making a plea to our community to continue to support this initiative in partnership with the Municipality.”
