UPDATE ‘Crossing of Death’: One of the victims identified

Son: She was a beloved mother and grandmother.

One of the people who was killed in a car crash at the ‘Crossing of Death’ has been identified to be an elderly Randfonteiner, beloved mother and grandmother.

May Grobler, a 74-year-old Randfonteiner was one of the elderly women who tragically lost their lives after using the Northway-R24 ‘Crossing of Death’ on Thursday, 14 April.

Grobler’s son, Tiaan, confirmed to the Herald his mother was a victim of the crash and it was discovered that she was not only a mother but a grandmother as well. She became a widow after her husband passed away three years ago.

The two women were traveling in a Mercedes – of which Grobler was a passenger – while crossing the intersection from Northway Road when they were hit by a Ford Ranger traveling on the R24.
