Mrs SA finalists give back to their roots

'I want to do everything I can to give back'

Randfontein’s two Mrs South Africa semi-finalists did their part for National Good Deeds Day.

The two beauties, Janine Ferreira and Elain Erasmus gathered food from the community to give to residents of Dick Powel Villas which is a municipal housing complex in Homelake on Saturday.

The two who rode on the back of an open bakkie with the food showed they care for their community by giving widows – women who are the sole breadwinner – and women with no breadwinner food parcels.

The women were not the only beneficiaries as children from the Villas were treated to hot dogs, fruit and soft drinks.

Elain explained to the Herald that she grew up at the very Dick Powel Villas she visited for good deeds day.

I don’t want people to think of me of being spoiled.

“This is where I come from and I want to do everything I can to give back the community,” Elain said.

Janine may not have lived there but her grandmother lived there for 26 years which means she basically grew up there.

“That place is near my heart,” she said.

When the duo were finished at the Villas they took to the streets to look for beggars to give food parcels to. After much searching, Randfontein’s one-legged beggar was found and received a parcel for good deeds day.
