Woman, 60, hit and killed during peak traffic

She suddenly appeared in the road – driver to police.

A 60-year-old woman pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle during peak hour traffic on the N14 in Brandvlei, Randfontein Police said.

A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson explained to the Herald that police were called out to a scene of a collision on the N14 last Tuesday. She said that upon their arrival they found the lifeless body of a female pedestrian next to the road.

“It is alleged that two vehicles were passing each other from opposite directions when the pedestrian suddenly appeared in the road.

The driver was unable to swerve out and struck the pedestrian. She died on the scene.”

This was the second death on this road in three days. A motorist passed away on 2 April when his vehicle overturned on the same road.

Ernst urged motorists to be more vigilant when using this road, which passes Baderile Settlement and that pedestrians should be extra cautious when crossing this road, since it is not well lit.
