Man seriously injured after rear-end crash

'A bakkie rear-ended another while attempting a u-turn.'

Two people were injured, one seriously, after a bakkie rear-ended another on Randfontein Road near Leratong Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, “ER24 paramedics were called to the scene after it was reported that a bakkie rear-ended another while attempting a u-turn on the road. On arrival, both vehicles were found on the side of the road.

“On assessment, paramedics found a male in his 40s lying trapped inside his vehicle in a serious condition.

Rescue medics from ER24 had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the man from the vehicle.

“Once freed, paramedics treated the man and provided him with advanced life support interventions. He was thereafter transported to Krugersdorp Private Hospital for further treatment.

“A second patient was found on scene with only minor injuries. The man was treated and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.”

Local authorities were on scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
