Randfontein to get new Monster mall

'Randfontein will never be the same again, come April 2017.'

The days Randfonteiners heading out of town to do their shopping will be over soon.

Yes, it’s true. By April next year Randfontein should have its own Tambotie Mall in Greenhills.

On Wednesday 6 April the Herald witnessed a sod-turning ceremony where construction already has started.

Jimmy Pappas, owner of Uncle’s Harry Roadhouse, has waited nine years for his dream of the Tambotie Mall to realise. At the sod-turning ceremony he hosted, the cream of Randfontein gathered to witness this historical event.

Pastor Daniel Tshabadira opened the event with prayer and welcomed guests such as Mpho Nawa, West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) Executive Mayor; Mzi Khumalo, Randfontein Executive Mayor; Kenny Mampondo, Traffic Police chief; Roy Harris, long-time Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) member); Evert du Plessis, ward councillor for the area; not to mention various attorneys, pastors, family and friends.

The much-respected Jimmy then addressed the crowd, starting off by saying the mall was his dad, Harry Pappas’s initiative over 40 years ago, which then became his and his family’s. He thanked God for this dream becoming a reality and everybody who have prayed for the success and realisation of the project.

He expressed gratitude towards councillor Nawa, who along with his family and pastors, blessed the land with prayer and song. “Randfontein will never be the same again, come 2017,” he said. He welcomed George Papavarnavos, the developer of and investor in the project, to the town and thanked him for having the trust and confidence to invest his money in Randfontein and Tambotie Mall.

Jimmy had two spades engraved with the words,

For with God nothing shall be impossible” especially for the ceremony.

Nawa said the project is extraordinary, and that Jimmy’s patience led to Tambotie Mall becoming a reality. “I am very excited as this is a great opportunity for development in Randfontein. Now Randfontein residents have no need to go shopping in places like Krugersdorp. This is service to the people.” He said this project will bring everybody together and also benefit the children of tomorrow. He believes when God is involved, it becomes permanent; all the rest is temporary.

Khumalo said Randfontein and its people come first, and everyone at the Municipality are working together to make it possible. “We call God to be with us on this project.” He pledged his and the municipality’s continued support.

Randfontein business owners handed over a letter of well wishes to Jimmy and thanked him for giving them the opportunity to be part of this huge project. The sod-turning ceremony was a beautiful start to a new, exciting journey that holds huge benefits for Randfontein and its residents.
