The Herald is highly commended

The Herald won an award being among the best newspapers under the Caxton brand.

The Herald was highly commended at the 2016 Caxton Excellence Awards.

The ceremony is held annually to award Caxton’s magazines and newspapers.

There are 120 publications in the local newspaper division, and the Herald was highly commended, meaning it was the runner-up in the 20 and over pagination category.

The current editorial team at the Herald consists of Clinton Botha (editor), Roxy de Villiers and Maritza van Zyl (journalists). Amanda van Zyl offers marketing advice and support and the Herald‘s stylish layout, which was previously revamped by Danie Janse van Vuuren, is done by graphic designer Sue Bruwer. The subeditors are Lorraine Brown (chief sub) and Mariëtte Brink.

The secret to success at the Herald is team work, coffee and laughter – there is never a dull moment in the office.

The newspaper arguably looks so good because of Clinton’s sometimes ludicrous demands for pictures as he usually asks his journalists for a 45,3 degree angle photo (whatever that means) while they lay on their stomachs in a minefield of cow manure taking a photo of a farmer with passion in his eyes.

Jokes aside, the Herald could not have won the award without a hardworking team and a community willing to reach out and let their stories be told.
