Occults – The warning signs

A tendency to wear black is also a very common sign.

There are many signs parents need to look out for when it comes to their children’s well-being.

Becoming involved in the occults definitely is one of them.

Iain Batten, motivational speaker at schools, warns parents that the following could be signs of their children’s possible involvement in the occults. If 70 per cent of these warning signs apply to your child, it is time to take action.

• An unnatural obsession with fantasy games such as Dungeons and Dragons and an interest in an ‘Ouija Board’, glass-glass and other occult activities such as tarot cards and astrology

• An obsession with psychic phenomena such as telepathy, astral projection and ESP

• An obsession with heavy metal music, especially black-metal groups such as Slayer, Venom, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Slipknot and other groups that use satanic terminology and symbols. Look at the CD cover of the groups that your child listens to and take note of symbols, skulls and monster-type pictures. Read or listen to the words and look at the titles of the songs

• An obsession with occult films such as Friday the 13th, Poltergeist and Harry Potter

• An interest in satanic objects such as posters, skulls, knives, cups, black candles, black cloaks and incense burners

• A tendency to write poems and letters about Satanism or to draw an upside down cross, pentagrams, the number 666, the name of satan, skulls and other symbols of death

• A tendency to wear black – a very common sign

• Avoiding family and friends

• A tendency to rebel against the authority of parents and teachers not normal to teenage behaviour.

• Signs of depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts

• Self-inflicted marks/ wounds on the body.

Some other signs are:

• Obsessed with death, destruction and mutilations
• Many and recurring nightmares
• The use of illegal drugs or any form of alcohol abuse
• A morbid interest in blood
• Violent or inhumane actions towards people and animals, or vandalism
• A desire to paint their room black
• Collecting of occult jewellery (pentagram, upside down cross, goat’s head, 666 marks, and any satanic symbols)
• Marks in exams/tests suddenly decrease
• Lack of personal hygiene
• The rejection of his or her usual friends
