Police: Approximately eight suspects armed with firearms and pangas target local business.

The Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt following the robbery of a business by approximately eight suspects armed with firearms and pangas.

Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed the incident took place at around 1.10pm one Wednesday in February at Lucky Farms Cash and Carry.

The shop owner alleges he was waiting outside his shop, chatting to his younger brother when they were accosted by a group of +/- eight men armed with firearms and pangas.”

She said the suspects proceeded to point the owner and his brother with a firearm before collecting all the employees that were working outside the business.

The people then were instructed to go into the shop and threatened that they will be attacked if they did not cooperate. The suspects allegedly took an undisclosed amount of money, cigarettes and cellphones.

As the suspects were ready to flee, one of them demanded the key of the owner’s car before fleeing the scene in the owner’s Golf 6. The car later was found in the Tambo section of Bekkersdal.

“The police are investigating a case of business robbery and we are appealing to the public to assist with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects,” Lafakane said.
