Motorist makes drive-thru in resident’s wall

'Houses here are starting to look like drive-thrus, you can drive right through the property'

Another motorist drove through a resident’s wall, this time in Kocksoord, and all the owner wants is an apology.

Charmaine Fritz, a resident who lives at a corner house in Kocksoord, woke up in the early hours of Monday 14 March to a section of her front yard’s wall being destroyed and debris laying in her yard and pool.

“This is the car that crashed into a wall in Kocksoord in the last two months and it has to come to an end.

Houses here are starting to look like drive-thrus; you can drive right through the property,” she said.

Fritz and her sons have started fixing the wall but a windy day could spell disaster as the cracks in the wall make it unstable. The family, however, plans to cement pieces of the prefab wall in the ground to once again enclose their property.

“One of my dogs sleep where the car drove through the wall. Had it been just a few centimetres closer, it would have gotten hurt,” she said.

The cause of the accident is unclear.

“I don’t know if the driver was drunk or if he or she took the corner too wide trying to avoid the potholes in the middle of the road …

Whatever the case, you crashed into the wall, the least you could do is say sorry. That’s all I want,” she said.

Fritz also feels that the risk of these kinds of accidents will be reduced if potholes in the area were fixed regularly.

After the incident Charmaine drove around Kocksoord to see if she could find the car. “The driver left their car’s grill behind. It’s a yellow Ford. It must be one of the old Fords like a Fiesta,” she explained.
