Disabled parking hell a thing of the past

'Hopefully this will stop insensitive motorists from parking there.'

The use of the disabled parking at Randgate Spar has been a hot topic for some time, but there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

The Herald previously reported on a disabled motorist who tried to get community members to respect the law and not park in the disabled parking bay if they are not disabled.

On Sunday 13 March Randgate Spar management had the disabled parking bay repainted to mark it clearly. A community member informed the Herald of this welcome change.

The Herald decided to investigate. Unfortunately, the owner of Randgate Spar, Robert Farinha was not available for comment.

Ivan Laubscher, 39, a car guard said hopefully this would make a change.

We have had tremendous problems with inconsiderate motorists in the past.

“Randgate Spar tried all kinds of measures, even steel tubing with a handicap sign did not stop these people. Cones were stolen, chains were broken and us car guards just got swore at,” Laubscher said.

A Randgate Spar staff member added, “Big cones also will be placed at the newly painted disabled parking bay. Hopefully this will stop insensitive motorists from parking there.”
