Rodora family massacre: Victims identified

Close friend: Things were improving for them.

A close friend of one of the victims of the Rodora murders spoke out about the family and their alleged struggles.

The victims of the massacre were 73-year-old Monty McCormack, his son Kennith, 42, Kennith’s fiancée Marietjie Meyer and her nine-year-old daughter Kayla.

Due to the sensitive nature of the matter, the friend did not want her name to be linked to the information she gave the Herald. She will be referred to as Adele. In an interview with Adele, she spoke about how she had known Marietjie since school – over 30 years ago.

“We lost contact for about 20 years but about five years ago we made contact again around the time of a school reunion,” she said.

“Marietjie left school when she was in Grade 8 to start working because as far as I know the family was struggling. She has struggled a lot over the years.”

She said things were looking up for Marietjie when she met Kennith, whom she described as her soul mate. The two have been together for a year now.

“They have been living on the farm for about a year as well. In December I saw a photo of her ring on Facebook. “

She explained the two sometimes had to sleep in their car while the house was being built.

They were almost finished building the house, which makes it even sadder. Things were improving for them.”

Adele described little Kayla as being very open and loving. Adele alleged the family had many financial problems and speculated that it could be one of the reasons for this terrible incident.
