Gogo celebrates her 104th birthday

Lydia Sebeko shares her secrets to longevity.

Staff members of the Westonaria Clinic recently celebrated the birthday of 104-year-old, Lydia Sebeko.

The party was held in line with the government’s strategic output 1 which is to increase the life expectancy of their citizens. The birthday was held on Friday, 4 March at the Westonaria Clinic.

Her daughter, Rose Tivane said, “I would like to forward my gratitude to the Westonaria Clinic staff members who put their hands in their own pockets and who did the effort to look for donations in making my mom’s birthday celebration special.

We never bought her even a cake during her birthday but the clinic did such a wonderful party for her.”

The clinic’s staff as well as local businesses contributed towards buying her gifts while the Westonaria Taxi Association assisted with sponsorships.

Sandile Gwayi, spokesperson for West Rand District Health Department said, “Even though she has an eyesight problem, she is still able to walk on her own without being supported.”

Lydia, who lives with her daughter Rose and grandchildren in Westonaria Borwa, said, “I have been eating cultural foods like spinach and cabbage with less cooking oil and I don’t drink alcohol,” Lydia said with a smile.
